Ackergill Tower – Haunted Scotland Castles

Posted on September 17th, 2010 by admin in Scotland Castles | No Comments »

Ackergill Tower has such a violent past. Originally built in the early 1400s by Clan Keith this Scotland castle has changed hands numerous times. Over its lifetime it was taken by force by Clan Sinclair then taken back by Clan Keith. Later the tower was given to Lord Opiphant then taken again by force by a Kieth then given back to the lord. Then another Kieth to the castle back. Even later it was purchased by the Sinclairs and then taken by Sir Robert Gorden. The castles changes hands a few more times before being purchased and renovated by the Dunbars.

Ackergill Tower is said to be haunted by a young Helen Gunn who was kidnapped by the Keiths and chose to throw herself from the battlements instead of staying with the Keiths.

You will find Ackergill Tower located in Caithness in the far north and on the edge of the sea.

This Scotland Castle should have been placed in the castle hotels list because this castle can be rented for your company retreat or a large family gathering. There are 25 unique rooms in all.
